Special Thanks: Trevor, Madison...

Oh, I almost forgot.

I need to thank my two buddies who immediately reached out to me in my time of need. As I was running low on Thursday Plantation Tea Tree chewing sticks they both offered to ship me cases and boxes free of charge. You guys rock, both Trevor and Madison. I most appreciate it but now that I'm back in the States I'm on the patrol to find some cheap ones at shops around the area. I was looking online and I found cases that compared to me buying it by the single boxes. Does anyone know a good place online to buy these things?

But, thanks you guys. I've got a few more and I'll find some place to buy some in bulk so I can bring them back. If any of y'all head overseas make sure you stock up on your own tea tree chewing sticks (I just wrote chooing... awesome).

Cheers, friends!

~Justin

PS: Keep on scrolling for this week's show blog and playlist.

The Prodigal Son Returns...

Yes, it has been awhile since I've written a true story blog, so I'll try and sum up everything that's happened in the last couple of weeks since I was shipped home to Minnesota. It is cold outside today, Dad came home from work and went right to sleep (naptime, we're going out tonight! Foosball!) and so I've got some time to write a good, long bbbllloooggg. (Look, I made it longer.)

Episode 8 playlist? Keep on scrolling or click on the link for it in the sidebar.

I flew home via Air India which was extremely delightful. I don't like to endorse people for free but if you ever have the opportunity to fly Air India over... umm... any other transatlantic carrier (too much time in the airline industry) choose them. It's cheaper than everyone else and I was treated so well. Movies of my choosing, delightful chicken curry and they served tea later, pillows, blankets, leg space... the whole shooting match. Kicked the HECK out of NWA. :P

I'll include an excerpt from my notebook that I wrote on the flight:

"Got to see where the mighty Thames [river] dumps into, or comes out of the ocean. A beautiful day with only spots of clouds and the bright sunshine reflecting off the water and into my eyes making it hard for me to turn and respond to the delightful flight attendants. It is an undeniably gorgeous day but also a sad one as I would never trade this view for the previous one inside our small flat. Jamie is so much more beautiful than this view or any view for that matter flying in the opposite direction of her."

Yes, I miss Jamie.

Moving on... The first weekend I was home I got to head out on the road with my brothers' band Lights Out Dancing for a little weekend tour. Not only did they rock the heck out of Virginia and Duluth Minnesota, I also saw my brother go up the stairs wearing an old Halloween costume which was a human-sized box of wine. He came back down the stairs later much more drunk and wearing ONLY the wine box costume. Very interesting evening.

My brothers are twins, four years younger than I am, and just turned 21 this March. It's been an interesting few days and I'm hoping that my slightly-older liver will recover from the onslaught. Actually, it hasn't been all that bad. They're more responsible that I was. But that's a story for another time.

A story I can tell you was the first night I was in town I was still up after being awake, with the time change and everything, for 20 hours. As I returned on the eve of their birthday I threw out the notion, while falling asleep on the couch, that we should head up to the local bar for drinks at midnight. The idea caught on like wildfire and before I knew it I was standing in front of a bartender ordering Fat Tire. They have Fat Tire in Minnesota now, yay! And, we brought in the boys' birthday correctly.

As for Jamie she's still in London babysitting dogs, camping out in the middle of nowhere, and tracking down animal horders in the English countryside. Obviously keeping busy, but I think she's still looking forward to my return, which should be anytime now. We're at the tail end of the possible length for this paperwork, so we should hear anytime.

Jamie and I appreciate everyone's support through these trying months and want you to know how important it is to us. We couldn't do this without you. A special thanks to my parents for their continued support and putting up with my strange motivations to clean the house. (A different shade than the boys who are the yang to my yin.) Also, thanks to Julie and Jim, Jamie's parents, for their continued support of us and especially Jamie as she's in the big city by herself now. Thanks you guys.

Have a great rest of your week! Keep on scrolling if you're looking for this week's playlist. It's not much further.

Episode 8 - Small Towns Burn a Little Slower

Welcome back to the show! Those of you keeping score at home (...or at work...) have probably recognized the fact that I haven't added any cool stories to the blog in the last few weeks. You might also know that I've been traveling - from London to Minnesota and now all around this wonderful state of the union - so I, for lack of a better phrase, have been doing instead of writing. Like Benjamin Franklin once said, "Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing."

And, as the curly-cue on my chocolate-dipped ice-cream cone (among other sets of words that require a hyphen) my computer is on the fritz. I'm actually sitting in front of an Apple Store right now waiting for them to fix my "hhhhhh" key and clean out my keyboard. I was in there, but I forgot about it so I started to blog and hhhhh... remembered what the other problem was.

So, once I get this puppy fixed I'll be writing many-a-story for y'all. I promise.

"All I have are these open hands.
So feel free to take what you please.
For I believe that the giver is also open to receive"

A very provoking song about unrequited love (I think...) from this very interesting and hard-working band out of Minneapolis. Small Towns Burn a Little Slower has been around for quite some time and while they're currently defunct, they've influenced so many other bands in their geographical area and all around in their area of music. Their second full-length release, So Begins the Test of a Man was put out by a sort of angel from on high, Dead Letter Records. As an independent label, Jeremy swooped in and picked up the printing of the hard copies and rescued the band from releasing the album solely via digital download. The band had been put into huge debt through some contractual obligations with a label (we're not allowed to say or mention much about this...) and were in serious trouble. So, thanks to Jeremy and DLR, the album is out there.

Enjoyable in it's length as well as it's individual tunes it was in my head from my first listen. The tracks differentiate themselves enough to where you know when it's song 3 from song 2 (some pop/punk albums don't) but also keeps the Small Town's style and contains a through line that carries you from 1 to done. Hit up Tommy and Jeremy over at their myspace page www.myspace.com/smalltowns and order your copy. You can also find them on iTunes and other digital retailers, but the best way to support the band in their time of need is to buy it directly from them.

Well, it's time to show you the rest of the songs that Jason and I played this week. I'd like to thank Jason for being on the show with me this week and for his continuous support of the show.

Episode 7 - Four Year Strong

Hello everyone from the frozen city of Minneapolis. After almost two days of travel crammed into one super-long day I made it back to the homeland on Wednesday. I've got many stories to tell, so keep an eye on the blog for more stories about Air India (the best airline out there, seriously), my trip to Duluth with Lights Out Dancing, leftover Halloween costumes and more. We'll see how much time I find to write all these stories. There's just so many good ones!

"I've seen the best and worst of you
But we're sticking through
Cause the without all of the ups and downs
We've been through
You know that its true
That I could get really sick and tired of you."
That's the chorus from the Band of the Week, Four Year Strong. An amazing group of guys I'm told by my cohost this week, Ryan. One of the hardest working, hardest touring bands right now on the indie punk scene you should definitely cruise over and check them out. They're starting a US tour starting on March 18th through till the beginning of May and they've also got dates booked all the way through August. Check them out on Myspace at www.myspace.com/fouryearstrong or at a very interesting homepage web address www.fucktheguywhoownsfouryearstrong.com.

I didn't say that one on the show for good reason. I'm trying to keep my "clean" rating in good standing. It's not that I don't appreciate it. I do.

A special thanks to Ryan from Lights Out Dancing for co-hosting the show. We'll definitely get him back to do another, we had such fun doing it and I'm sure you could tell.

Keep an eye out this week as I divulge my stories about my traveling and such. It's been a very fun week aside from the fact that I have to be away from the love of my life. She's there in London, so, "London, take care of her!"

Thanks a lot for frequenting the blog and the podcast, I appreciate it.

JW Show Ep. 6 - Jenny Mitchell and Mathias Kom

"Smashing mugs and bathing suits
I even like it when he's really rude
To people who deserve it
(...Church choir robes, disco lights and strobes)"

-from "Thrift Store" by The Barmitzvah Brothers
Quote of the week from one of the three bands included in the interesting and enjoyable trifecta of groups who the Artists of the Week are involved. Jenny Mitchell, also known as Jenny Omnichord wrote this song for her father where she is employed while not on the road AND the same place where she found the instrument of her namesake, the omnichord. Sharing her talents not only with her band The Barmitzvah Brothers but also on a solo project where she goes by her cleaver stage name Jenny Omnichord and with her band-mate Mathias Kom's other project The Burning Hell. This band brings Kom's dark vocal voice and humor to the front, creating a different but equally enjoyable sound. This group of funny, interesting, and brilliant songwriters was impossible to play as just one group, and so we've given each of their projects a thorough listen and they're all played in the feature segment of the show this week.

They're starting out on tour through central and western Canada on March 5th and not stopping until sometime in June. Accompanying this trip is another project of Jenny Mitchell's (if she didn't have enough on her place already) which is a journal/book entitled Jenny's Cross Canada Haircut Book. For just 2 dollars (in Canadian, I assume) you get a prime haircut from the self-taught barber that Jenny is, and she gets a before-and-after picture, talks to you and adds your pictures and your story to her book. How cool is that? If you're interested in letting Jenny know how cool it is, here's her email address: agatharead@hotmail.com. Tell her you heard about it on the Justin Wayne Show.

Montana friends... They're going to be in Lethbridge on March 30th! (For those of you non-Montanans, Lethbridge is the Canadian border town where all the 19 year-olds go to buy and drink alcohol. Kind of like Montana's version of Tijuana except Montana's MORE frightening than Lethbridge. It's Canada!)

If you're somewhere else and are interested in catching some great music and a great 2 dollar haircut, here's the rest of that contact information.

Jenny Omnichord: www.myspace.com/jennyomnichord
The Burning Hell: www.myspace.com/mathiaskom
The Barmitzvah Brothers: www.thebarmitzvahbrothers.com

Also on the show this week is my co-host from FM 99 The Mountain in Red Lodge, Montana, member of the Dawn Patrol, Bill Buckner! We had fun with it this week.

Ryan in the Ring is back again and Ryan's promised to hate loving Star Trek every week now. If you've got questions, comments or anything like that email him at nimoysucks@gmail.com. He's ready to tear up that fantastic sci-fi "cannon".

Of course, I got a little carried away with that Band of the Week because you can't just think stuff up that's THAT funny and cool to write about in a blog. It's nice to let someone else provide the humor this week, especially such an interesting group of music-makers!

My humor has about run out right now as I'm heading back to the States tomorrow and leaving Jamie behind. It will only be until my work permit and work visa get worked out, but it saddens me to leave her here in a big city all by herself. She does have our caring flatmates and the best Staffordshire Terrier there ever was to take care of her, but I'll be back home.

If you happen to be in the Minneapolis greater metro area and you're looking to get your carpet cleaned, I believe I'll be moonlighting as a carpet cleaning technician with Arndt Carpet Care when I'm there. It's my Dad's carpet cleaning business, and you can find us on the web (I made the site!) at: www.arndtcarpetcare.com.

Any shows I should check out while I'm home? Band, let me know when you're playing and I can meet some of you face-to-face instead of myspace profile-to-myspace profile.

The next episode of the show should come off as scheduled, so don't worry about that. We'll just be broadcasting from my teenage room where all of my cool band posters, old trophies, and weird collectibles are still on the wall. It's kind of like my sarcophagus but I've already risen from the dead. Creepy, now that I say that...

Alright, here's the playlist. Take care. Special thanks to the Independent Online Distribution Alliance (IODA) for helping provide some of the music. Independent musicians and artists, check into this program for putting your stuff on the web for people to buy and download. They do a very nice job of prepping the music for us podcasters, so they're doing something right over there. Also, thanks to the other artists who graciously provided their music for show. I do appreciate it.
